The Lost Ring

Just finished dinner
And I was about to sit down
There was news on my TV
In a local channel in this town.

My attention
Was just floating around,
To no particular thing
It was focused or bound.

Suddenly this clip
Felt like as if
Just slipped in,
About a lady
Who recently
Lost her wedding ring.
My eyes stopped wondering
And tried to focus on this thing,
The story was playing
In front of me
On my TV screen.

My attention
Suddenly was captured
And for no apparent reason
I found myself adhered
To this incidence.
Then some simple details of her life
In plain language she was able to describe.
She recently lost her husband
A young couple they were
I could see and understand.

She lost her wedding ring
On the freeway
While she was driving,
As she lost some weight recently
The ring got lose
And flew out of her finger
Suddenly.
The winds were high
They didn’t care about her emotions
The universe was careless
It didn’t give her any warnings or precautions.
Some CHP officer
Tried to look around
Sadly this small but priceless token
Could not be found.

I was able to see what she was missing
The ring was nice
But it still was a material thing.
I don’t know how much did it cost
It doesn’t matter as
That is not
What actually has been lost.

The actual vacuum that she was trying to fill
No one is able to see
But everyone is able to feel.
The memories that keeps hanging around
The emptiness and silence that tends to surround
This ring was able to fill and to respond
Some of the gaps and to some of these songs
That may still be playing in her mind,
In this ring
May be she was able to find
Some reflections of her lost husband,
With some memories
May be she was able to dance,
In her lonely moments
May be she was able to smile
Looking at this ring
May be she was able to bring
Her lost husband
Just a little closer
So that the burden of the loneliness
May be was felt
Just a little less,
May be her moments were able to fly
With a little less pain
And a little less cry.

All these possibilities
And with the realities
That she is facing
Not much emotion I could see
That she was showing or expressing.
She looked strong
Holding herself together,
I however found myself
Under a slightly different weather.
Some choking in my throat
And some embarrassing moisture in my eyes
My son was around
So I quickly tried to hide and disguise.

I continued to think
And then started to write
How we humans
Have this ability to influence
Each other
From a distance
And in an instance
Breaking all the laws of physics
And all the rules of science!
