Big accident injuries and crash
Broken bones tissues splattered
Blood everywhere with splash
The scene is gruesome
With body parts scattered.
Victims are taken to the hospital
Doctors can see the blood pouring out
They watch the patients closely
And easily find the routs.
Sutures gauges and expert hands
Situation critical they all understand
They find the arteries and repair the holes
They stop the bleeding and achieve their goals.
Another patient with no visible blood
Seems to be going down
Her eyes are getting shut.
Becoming unresponsive as blood pressure is falling
Heart rate is slowing down and breathing is stalling.
Trauma surgeon standing by with no time to spare
Drills a hole in her belly
As part of a standard of care.
Seeing similar patients he has a gut feeling
That despite
Having no blood outside
This patient he may be losing
Because of massive internal bleeding.
Looking through the whole
He quickly realizes
His instincts were correct
And this step maximizes
Her chances of survival,
But this was not apparent
At the moment of her arrival.
Quick action and emergent surgery
He is able to save this patient
Who was about to be buried.
But what about a bleeding heart
That cannot be found
In any hospital chart
And that cannot be seen
Through CT scan beams
Or through any other imagings.
As this blood is invisible
Emotional trauma is by which
This is only possible.
Victims of all different types
Sustain their wounds from all different knifes.
Loss of a loved one or relationship conflicts
Suffering injustice or personal defeats
Abuse harassment and things that are not so concrete
Loss of innocence and things that are supposed to be sacred.
Emotional draining being unable to replete
Victims may be left on their own
With their humanity as they deplete
Invisible internal bleedings these things do inflict.
Can we really see the pain
Of a child who lost a parent
Too small to know what really happened
And they may continue playing
Not much they may even be saying
But from that little heart some blood is oozing
As part of his childhood he is slowly losing.
Seeing other kids running towards their parent
He is missing something it must be apparent
Even to this little mind,
For whom the world is not so clear
He keeps looking for that someone
Who used to be near and who was his dear.
What about a parent who lost a child
Just being an adult
Does it make the pain any less or mild?
Heavier hearts they always have to carry
As their internal wounds they try to patch and bury
Nothing fills the emptiness that surrounds
They are followed by the silence and its hounds.
Memories may be the only thing they can lean on
To ease their chest
So they are able to breathe on
Even though they may be unable to rest.
Physical scars
May be ugly and palpable
Emotional scars
Are deep and may not be erasable.
Physical scars
May be removed by surgery or lotions
Emotional scars
May have a chance
With some love and some affections.
Emotion being such a unique human characteristic
Solving its problems may not be easy or so simplistic.
Shaped by experiences expectations culture and upbringing
It defies to be framed or be part of any particular listing.
Fluid and flexible subject to many different factors
It may be prone to the effects of many different actors.
Physical injuries may be open and severe
For the victims of mental trauma
The pain is just as real and just as clear.
Internal bleeding with some invisible blood
They are enduring as they are living through this flood.
Lost hopes and lost sense of self
Not crying out even though
It is time for some help.
If we see the components of their lives
With such downing
May be we should reach out and be able to
Prevent them from drowning…..
