Love Hate Pendulum

We fall in love

And we feel good

Two hearts try to become one

As they should.

Harmony and kissing

Remind us what we have been missing.

As we enjoy these blessings

Everything looks perfect

And if they are not

We easily overlook or neglect.

Romance and obsession

Give fuel to our passions.

Trying to feed

Each others needs

Our own choices and demands

We easily defeat.

Each others faults

We easily forgive

Each others defects

We easily accept.

We feel like we are inseparable

Mutual bonding seems strong and stable.

The universe with imperfection as its rule

Laughs at us as it quietly ridicules.

With the passage of time

Like everything else

Things start to shake

As reality starts to smell.

Things can now be seen

In their actual appearance

No longer are we ready

To grant our clearance.

Minor defects

And excusable faults

Now has opposite effects

May be even insults.

As the level of tolerance decreases

Mental separation increases.

Some of what used to be love

Has now turned into hate

As for criticism and judgment

Our minds have open their gates.

Things are more objective and practical

May be even selfish and more material.

But the feeling for each other

Does not disappear

Completely,

An emotional pendulum we become

Swinging slowly.

At moments we are in the lovers’ end

And at others the hatred becomes dominant.

Unable to jump out of such a miserable state

We plunge into a constant mental debate –

Do I love this person or do I hate

Was this the right thing to do

Or was this a terrible mistake?

This love hate conflict

Usually afflict

Many couples in a relationship.

Some find ways to compromise

That way they are able to prevent their own demise.

Others may lack the necessary tools

Or they may be driven by their own different rules.

This swinging of  emotions may become too strong

They may be thrown out before it is too long.

This outcome is not really unexpected

If the usual behavior of the universe is respected.

Nothing is usually meant to last forever

Breakdown is the usual path that everything must suffer.

Regardless of this ultimate fate

We are still able to enjoy our state

Forgiving each others mistakes

Forgetting things that causes us to frustrate

We just have to accept each others imperfection

And be able to deal with each others rejections.

Then the relationship will still be viable

And to reach our satisfaction we will still be able.

The journey may be bumpy

As the road may be broken

But at our destination

Being successful in our mission

We will hold each others hands

With love as our token.
